Senior Corporate Accountant

Position Overview:

This position is focused on financial accounting and tax preparation and will be reporting to the Director, Tax and Accounting. You will primarily be responsible for assisting in providing management and ownership with accurate and timely financial statements, cash flows and management reporting information.

The duties include but are not limited to: preparation of financial statements and supporting year end notes, preparation of monthly cash flow reports with variance analysis including forecast. It will also include assistance in the preparation of pro-forma corporate income tax analysis and ad-hoc special projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reporting including management reporting;
  • Introduces and develops new procedures to improve the accounting process and improve departmental workflow
  • Assist the Director in supervising and managing other members of the team
  • Prepare accounting journal entries and reconciliation of accounts, monthly financial statements and year end note disclosures as required;
  • Preparation of corporate and personal income tax returns including detailed supporting working papers for various corporate entities and individuals as assigned;
  • Prepare quarterly cash flow reports with comparison to budget, variance analysis, and forecast updates; Review monthly Goods and Services Tax filings on a timely basis as required;
  • Review reconciliations of broker statements and identify appropriate journal entries for investment transactions;
  • Create and maintain dashboards for financial metrics;
  • Assist in supporting external auditor requests;
  • Create and maintain working paper files for audit purposes and other ad hoc reports
  • Assist in covering for other members of the team while they’re on vacation
  • Review reports required by Statistics Canada and assist in special projects as needed

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Minimum four years of experience as a corporate accountant or public practice
  • A Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree, designated CPA or other recognized designation, along with 4 years of related accounting and tax experience is required
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of ASPE and financial statement disclosure requirements
  • Basic knowledge of corporate, commodity and personal income tax compliance requirements
  • Experience in completing tax returns and financial statements including pro-forma tax returns
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office products specifically Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to analyze and present financial results with ease and has strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple projects with tight deadlines, and meet set deadlines
  • Attention to detail with well-developed critical thinking is required
  • Experience with CaseWare is a desirable asset
  • Honesty, integrity and ability to keep confidential information is a must
