Position: Manager, Information Technology

Reports to: Vice President, Finance

Description:

  • To support and provide ideas to Executive and senior management relating to technology risks and solutions that will help run our business more efficiently;
  • Implement identified key IT projects successfully and painlessly;
  • Collaborate and talk to line managers to see where pain points are to make people’s lives easier, while maintaining strong IT security controls;
  • Train/educate people to use technology to make their day-to-day easier (can be through workshops, blogs, good communication with finger on the pulse);
  • System and data security are table stakes and must be up to date and good at it;
  • Lead a small team for day-to-day support desk functions;
  • Manage costs in procurement and communications services (internet, mobile phones, landlines);
  • Support and lead our IT perspectives for system and operational system implementations, upgrades and maintenance;
  • Lead the Company’s IT initiatives, supporting senior management in decision making and proactively driving enterprise level projects from needs assessment on to completion;
  • Plan for regular replacement of outdated technologies and systems to bring new efficiencies into the organization, while maximize use of existing systems that still fit the business model;
  • Maintain a strategic IT plan for the Company that ensures the timely adoption of proven technological advancements;
  • Champion the change management aspect of new technology integration to facilitate smooth transitions and user adoption;
  • Using an active and practical approach, the Manager will manage, coach and train IT staff so they can contribute to the Company’s success in achieving its growth plans;
  • Oversee all technical aspects of the company including security of network and IT assets;
  • Prepare management reports including IT plan and annual budgets as needed and/or requested.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with senior management on strategic planning, future IT infrastructure, and establish priorities in alignment with corporate goals;
  • Lead the IT team and elevate the team’s role within the organization as a business partner;
  • Provide the leadership, strategy and innovation to support business processes and goals;
  • Establish and maintain an effective communication with the user community to evaluate and implement business process changes and new technologies, and to develop effective desktop support systems for office and field-based employees and drive the effort to rationalize information systems at the enterprise level;
  • Lead and drive the strategy for IT security and redundancy planning
  • Ensure that Company security requirements for IT are effective and meet all regulatory and management requirements;
  • Manage the day-to-day IT operations ensuring that all users within the organization is adequately supported;
  • Work with the IT staff, supporting departmental users, to specify hardware and software standards to support the Company’s growing, dynamic network;
  • Develop, forecast and track IT budget, and manage IT related purchases
  • Manage and develop IT staff, assessing and selecting training tools and methods for staff development;
  • Review, evaluate and approve proposals for hardware or software acquisition;
  • Serve on divisional committees for ongoing analysis of system improvements and coordinate initiatives where applicable;
  • Implement appropriate educational and training programs to ensure high quality performance of users;
  • Manage third party providers (e.g., Telus) to minimize operating costs;
  • Monitor the IT help desk que and resolve long-outstanding issues.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of increasingly senior experience in the IT services industry, with at least 5 of those years requiring the management of staff and/or consultants;
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline;
  • Strong management skills and exceptional customer service focus combined with broad, hands-on IT knowledge and experience;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of multiple computing systems, applications and architectures and the ability to interpret client informational needs and to determine appropriate alternate solutions;
  • Ability to plan, design, coordinate, install, test and modify complex systems and subsystems
  • Experience in project management concepts, tools and techniques;
  • Ability to coordinate multiple technical projects and shifting business priorities;
  • Outstanding teamwork, communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to act independently and provide leadership at an advanced level of technical expertise;
  • Ability to perform effectively under stressful conditions, such as directional changes, tight deadlines and limited resources;
  • Industry experience and experience with MRI would be an asset.
